This probably made more sense when Jay Norvell was Nevada's head coach (he was the Sooners' offensive coordinator), but The Palace on the Prairie is a historic venue. Oklahoma: Like Texas, Oklahoma has a national brand and is headed to the SEC. Darrell K Royal Memorial Stadium is one of college football's top venues, which would be cool to see Nevada play in. Texas: The Longhorns are one of the top brands in college football, even if they haven't lived up to the hype post-Vince Young. I like the regional tie to Reno, which is an easy drive for Wolf Pack fans. The teams last played in 1945, a 33-14 Wolf Pack win in Salt Lake City. Utah: Nevada and Utah have both been Mountain West members, but not at the same time. We also could call is the Battle of the Martin Twins. That's literally the only reason I added the NC State Wolfpack to the list. North Carolina State: How about a Battle of the Wolf Pack? Winner gets to use the old-school wolf logo. I've put together a list of nine schools I'd most like to see the Wolf Pack add to its future non-conference schedule, the caveat being Nevada could not have scheduled a regular-season game against that opponent this century (since 2000). It's unlikely Nevada schedules two "buy games" in the same year, so the next opportunity to schedule a big-name opponent on the road would be 2028. The Nevada football team has been loading up on high-money non-conference games against marquee opponents recently, adding contests with Ohio State (in 2029) and USC (in 2027) previously announced games at UCLA (in 2026), Penn State (in 2025), Minnesota (in 2024) and Kansas (in 2029).
